Amirahmadi says nuclear issue should be linked to broader US-Iran relations

In an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera America’s Ali Velshi, Dr. Hooshang Amirahmadi, Founder and President of the American Iranian Council, discusses what it takes to resolve the dispute over Iran's nuclear program.

Asked about the nuclear issue in relation to broader US-Iran relations, he said "I have from day one believed that isolating the nuclear issue from the rest of the issues is wrong. I cannot see a day when the nuclear issue between the US and Iran would be normalized, while the relationship between the two countries remains abnormal."

Regarding whether a nuclear agreement on paper would be sustainable, he said, "How can you expect the nuclear deal to become sustainable this environment? Even if they sign a comprehensive nuclear deal tomorrow, it will not be sustainable because the Middle East is an environment of conflict and war. The Arab world, Iran, Israel, and Turkey are all interlocked in this conflict.
